How To Lower Your Golf Scores The Quickes
Work your short game. If you want to lower your scores the quickest easiest way then generally speaking, full swing training is not the way to go. Changing the mechanics of the full swing is time consuming and takes a lot of effort. Think about some of the world’s best golfers and how long it took them to make changes to their swings. Faldo took 2 years and Woods roughly the same when they decided to make changes to their swings. Still think you can change in a few lessons and a couple hours of instruction?
Work on your short game, it’s a lot easier and will show quicker results and probably know far more shots off your handicap than any swing change. Don’t try and build Rome either, just get your putting improved or just chipping from 10 to 20 yards.
Break the short game up into different areas. For example: Putting, Chipping, pitching, bunkers, specialty shots etc. Pick one or 2 areas to work on at a time and pretty soon the results will really show on the course. This will give you the moral boost to continue and later start working on some other areas.
Work Your Mental Game. The other fantastic way to not only lower your scores but enjoy your golf more is to learn a few simple mental strategies that you can easily and quickly apply around the course to improve the results you are getting.
Some of these include catching yourself talking negatively internally and changing it to more positive thoughts about what you want to happen. Give yourself a break and stop berating your poor self image with internal tongue lashings. If you are talking to yourself in a manner that you would not tolerate from someone else, then stop doing it.
Recognise that bad shots are part of the game of golf. They are inevitable for the best golfers in the world so you must expect them too. Mastery of golf is not about eliminating bad shots, it’s about your mental strength and ability to accept them and then play the next shot with relaxed confidence.
The mental game of golf is an exciting and challenging aspect which can pay big dividends and for some people it can pay off relatively fast. Another payoff of learning to control and employ your mind to your advantage on the golf course is that it will almost certainly help to improve many other off course aspects of your life including careers and relationships. But hey, maybe just playing better golf and enjoying it more and more is good enough?
